#DONTLOOKAWAY
MISSION STATEMENT
Remove from office those who separate families, kidnap babies, imprison children in cages, and deny due process of law to asylum seekers.
Don’t Look Away Pact is a non-partisan effort to remove from office elected officials who condone or encourage the separation of families and the detention of refugee children. We pledge to restore our country’s morals and our officials’ respect for our laws.
Statement on Biden Families Reunification Task Force
We have not forgotten. The Don't Look Away Pact praises the Biden Administration for its establishment of the Interagency Task Force on the Reunification of Families. The Pact partners, small donors from across the United States, dedicated themselves to the election of politicians who would end refugee family separation and would reunite separated children with their families. The elections of President Biden and Vice President Harris and the creation of this task force are the first steps in fulfilling the Pact's promise.
Approximately 550 refugee children remain without their families, years after the former presidential administration stole them from their caretakers. These children suffer daily in government-run shelters and in the care of strangers. They cannot wait for a slow, bureaucratic reunification process to come to fruition.
The Pact calls on the Biden Administration to:
Move rapidly to reunite families.
Include in the Task Force community advocates, including Pact partners, who have spent years addressing refugee children's issues.
Create spaces for engagement with currently and formerly separated children and families, so their needs are understood.
Use the power of Silicon Valley and the Office of Science and Technology Policy to create computerized databases and systems to find separated family members.
The Pact has not forgotten the separated children, in whose names we advocate for justice. We stand ready to assist the Reunification Task Force.
